publishing a book: romanticism & editing a book

I’m still editing my first book after almost a three-week hiatus. I spent Christmas and New Year’s day at home with my children, watching TV and practically doing very little worthwhile. Then I spent two days in the hospital with my ten-year-old to rule out absent seizures and the rest of the week nursing my bad back.

After an incredible waste of paper, I’m still finding little errors here and there, making corrections and notes on a paper print-out of the story (a sixty-page plain text dump, confusing yet better than wasting 223 pages).

I’m also throwing ideas for a second book — a sort of prequel to the first to further explain the Utopian society in the first book. Without giving the second book away, note that all lives are intertwined with one another. One change will affect one or more lives directly and many others indirectly.

One thing that I’ve noticed several times, although I’ve tried to ignore, is my fascination with beauty and romanticism of nature even in the most technologically advanced of settings. I love to admire the moon and its enchantment. Perhaps I’m an old romantic after all.

So what’s the first book about? Think of the perfect society with

  1. environmentally safe energy, no pollution,
  2. complete religious and sexual freedom (right to engage in any activity without getting on the way of another person’s well being and/or freedom),
  3. no prejudice,
  4. the Church, The Faith and a faithful populace,
  5. a government that leaves nothing to chance yet willing to do anything to get its away (even murder),
  6. laws to protect everyone and to keep them in check,
  7. and the imminent destruction to it all.
