“The Truth About Grace” (ISBN 9781400204120) by John MacArthur is one of three books of “The Truth About” series. The other two books cover “The Lordship of Christ” (ISBN 9781400204168) and “Forgiveness” (ISBN 9781400204151).
In the first book, the author gives various definitions of God’s Grace (quoted below).
- “God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense”
- “God’s unmerited favor”
- “Grace is the good pleasure of God that inclines him to bestow benefits on the undeserving.” — A. W. Tozer
In other words, Grace is a gift from God to mankind even when we don’t deserve it.
“The grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation… and instructing us” (Titus 2:11–12 NASB).
The author talks about two forms of Grace. He points out that many Christians see Grace in different ways.
- Common Grace: goodness of God regardless of deserving it or not
- Sovereign Grace: God’s will to offer salvation
The author makes emphasis salvation by obedience and servitude. In my personal opinion, God’s Grace is Common Grace.
This is a short book worth reading or telling your pastor to have it in the church’s library for reference or, better yet, for Sunday school.
