Aside from some filler wording, the book does what the title implies. It guides us to pray like Christ did — considering translation or other human errors as well as the author’s opinion.

One thing I’d have wanted to see is how each set of verses fit into individual prayers. For example, his choice of Matthew 8 verses 2b, 8-9, 25b and 31 (KJV) would look like the text below.

2b And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean 8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. 25b And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. 31 So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.

It just feels like an awkward mix and match unless the author meant it as one long prayer — as the case of the verses in Matthew that the author pointed out.

At least, Matthew 8:25b (KJV) sounds like a prayer within itself replacing she for I or we.

In all, the “Words Spoken to Jesus, Considered Prayer” list fails to include the most important prayer — The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13).

Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. For those of us who don’t quite understand the lettering system in verses, I learned that a verse ending in a emphasizes the first part of such verse. As such, b would do the same for the second while c would do so for the third (most likely, the end). For example, in Matthew 8:2b, the second part of the verse is emphasized.

2b And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean

In any case, I’d highly recommend this book!
