interesting: the home church for the mental ill — first appointment

Marble Church with the Empire State Building in the background... interesting place, around the corner from Blanton-Peale.About two weeks ago, I went for an-hour-long intake process (11th). Then I had to wait for them to assign a clinician to work with me (perhaps also making sure that the health insurance will pay them). Today at noon, I finally got a call. My first appointment will be this Thursday (30th). Now let’s see where psychotherapy leads.

Let’s see what The Blanton-Peale Institute and Counseling Center can do for me. Can these people fix my brain?

“The Blanton-Peale Institute and Counseling Center is an accredited post-graduate educational institute and mental health service organization founded in 1937 by the internationally famous pastor and author The Rev. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale of New York City’s Marble Collegiate Church and the eminent psychiatrist Dr. Smiley Blanton who had trained in analysis in Vienna with Sigmund Freud. The Institute was established to bring together the insights of psychology and psychiatry and the wisdom of the great spiritual traditions to address the spiritual and psychological problems of contemporary life. To this end the Institute offers both licensure and non-licensure qualifying training programs that incorporate a lively dialogue between psychology and spirituality in a manner that is non-sectarian and open to multiple faith traditions.”

I will keep you in prayer. There’s nothing to “fix” but God can use them to “transform”.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) -> And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

It sounds nicer in KJV. 🙂

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
